How to split your image

01 / The workflow
01

Choose an image

Open a PNG, JPEG, or WebP file. Check the preview orientation before choosing the grid.

02

Set rows and columns

Choose how many pieces you want across and down. The preview shows where the cuts fall.

03

Download the tiles

Save the ZIP and extract it. Filenames include each tile’s row and column so you can reconstruct the image.

A practical exampleA 2400 × 1600 image split into 2 rows and 3 columns produces six 800 × 800 PNG tiles.

Know what to expect

02 / Details matter
InputPNG, JPEG, or WebP
OutputPNG tiles in a ZIP, numbered left to right and top to bottom

25 MB input limit and 40 million decoded pixels. Up to 10 rows and 10 columns. Large images can still exceed a mobile device’s available memory.

All source pixels are included

The general image splitter divides the full image without a center crop. If the dimensions do not divide evenly, neighboring tile sizes can differ by one pixel.

PNG output

PNG keeps transparent pixels where the source has transparency. Converting a JPEG to PNG does not restore detail already lost to JPEG compression.

For social grids

Use the Instagram Grid Splitter when you want square tiles and a center-cropped composition rather than full-image division.

How to Split an Image into Rows and Columns

Create image tiles without cropping the source. Choose a grid, calculate tile sizes, and understand one-pixel differences in PNG exports.

Questions, answered.

04 / FAQ
Can I split an image without cropping?

Yes. This tool divides the full image. It does not first crop the image to a new aspect ratio.

What order are the downloaded pieces in?

Rows go from top to bottom and columns from left to right. Filenames use row and column numbers.

Will the tiles have exactly equal dimensions?

Only when both source dimensions divide evenly by the chosen grid. Otherwise tile sizes may differ by one pixel.

Are uploaded images stored?

The selected image is processed locally and is not uploaded by the tool.

Can I split an animated image?

This tool is designed for still PNG, JPEG, and WebP images. It does not extract animation frames.
