How to Extract a Short Clip from a Video

You may only need one passage from a longer video: a demonstration, a presentation excerpt, or a reference clip. This workflow uses FFmpeg inside your browser to encode the selected range as an MP4.

Open Video Splitter ↗

1. Check playback first

Open the Video Splitter in a current desktop browser and select a source within the 100 MB limit. Play it briefly. Verify that the image appears and sound is audible. A playable MP4 or WebM is a useful starting point, but source codecs must also be supported by the encoding engine.

2. Translate timestamps into seconds

For a passage from 01:10 to 01:25, enter 70 and 85. The start must be earlier than the end, and the end must be within the loaded duration. Export one range at a time; repeat with different values to make additional clips.

3. Load the local processing engine

The first export downloads roughly 31 MB of FFmpeg engine assets from this site. Your video is not uploaded. Keep the page open during encoding. Clip length is limited to 300 seconds, and processing stops if it exceeds two minutes. Speed depends on source complexity and device performance.

4. Check the downloaded clip

The output is MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio when the source has an audio track. Larger sources are scaled to fit 1920 × 1080, and output uses 30 fps. Open the result and check sound, picture, duration, and the first and last moments.

5. Know what is included

The export takes the first video track and, when available, the first audio track. It does not retain subtitles, alternate audio tracks, or the original compressed bitstream. Use a dedicated editor for complex projects or delivery formats beyond these settings.

Try a small example first

Test with a 3-second passage before encoding a longer clip. Confirm that the resulting MP4 contains the picture and sound you expect and opens in your intended viewer.

Why does the first export download a large file?

The video encoder runs on your device. Its WebAssembly engine must be downloaded before processing begins; these engine files can be cached for later exports.

Ready to try it?

Use the tool on this site and check the output before sharing or importing it.
